Time and Breath

Breath is a dynamo that powers time,
Forcing it to, somehow, keep pace
Or time will hurry, uncontrollably, by
And win this unequal prejudiced race.
Time passes quickly to lay us to rest -
Perhaps, it does so out of some feeling
For all that we seem to face in life
Regardless of all our prayers and appealing.
It’s not that life doesn’t respond to them
But, maybe, we haven’t learnt enough
And, inspite of all that it lays out before us
We still find that going through life is tough.
And, so, perhaps, time comes to our rescue
Collecting bagfuls of moments of pain,
To tell us with its loud mute voice
That we may have suffered but not in vain.
But some of us learn to pay heed
To the mute messages all around
For they may not resound like drums
But if we dare to look, they can be found.
We pay heed and find joy, not pain
In nooks and crannies of life
And so we gently challenge time
Unconcerned with all the ongoing strife.
We use our breath and somehow slow time
To take stock of each moment’s gifts;
And, thus, we navigate through life
Without being unsettled by its relentless shifts.
