The Teacher

There are teachers of many kinds

And each one has his role to play -

Take from him what works for you

And then go on your way.

If you become bound to your teacher

You will never learn to walk alone

And then when time snatches him from you

You’ll become like a dog without a bone.

There are teachers who’ve learnt

From the greatest teachers of the age

But became so enamored with his words

They trapped themselves in their own cage.

And then there are teachers who learnt

From the greatest teacher there’s ever been

But they did not latch on to his words

And tried to see what he wished seen.

If you’re in search for a teacher

The best ones will pass you by

For your mind has made a choice already

What kind of teacher you wish to try.

It’s best to be open and see what comes

And absorb insights he shares with you,

Then use the insights to better your life

And see how they might have helped you.
