The Power Within

I may not be just the body

And, perhaps, not just the mind;

There may be a lot more to ‘me’

But they’re useful tools, I find.

The mind and body have been loaned to me

To use as a scientist uses his tools;

With the senses and all the organs

To help me learn in a special school.

I have my own laboratory that’s equipped

With instruments for my exclusive use;

I have the choice to upgrade them well

Or subject them to senseless abuse.

If I can upgrade these tools I’ve got

And tweak their power in different ways

I will gain knowledge first-hand

And be free from a life lived in a daze.

I’ve observed and seen those subtle things

That happen when I train my body-mind well;

I’ve seen how life can be made into joy

Instead of dragging it through what looks like hell.

Each one of us can make those changes

That empower us in a myriad ways

But we must walk our special paths ourselves

Unshaken by what a naysayer says.
