The Intellectual’s Song

My life is great, why bother about tomorrow -
Let me consume all I want, no need for sorrow.
I’ll use what I like and throw the waste around,
I’m merely returning what I took from the ground.
I’ll drive merrily everywhere and burn the good ol’ oil,
After all it’s a gift to me, a son of the soil.
I’ll allow whoever comes and lays waste my country,
After all, I’m the master, not just a sentry.
I’ll allow innocent countrymen to be converted,
So what if my nation’s security is subverted.
Why should I bother what tomorrow will bring,
Let me enjoy myself today, I’ll dance and sing.
Why should I care that people destroy and kill,
All’s perfectly fine as long as I get my fill.
Let the nation face whatever happens in the days ahead,
I’ll have lived my life and I’ll be happily dead.
