That Big Smile

A smile on my face is mere inches wide

But the one in my mind spans the universe

And so I close my eyes and touch

The edges of an expanding multiverse.

He would likely miss the smile on my face

But how can the one in my mind escape his eyes

And so I try to tickle the maker’s being

Far beyond our limiting skies.

Perhaps, the smile is not in my mind

And maybe it’s the maker’s smile

But I have touched it and downloaded it

To wear and revel in it for a while.

Perhaps, that big smile somewhere out there

Is not just mine or yours or hers;

Perhaps, that smile that the maker dons

Happens when we all are his smiles.
