Self-Improvement
Self-improvement has become a whole big industry. It’s become such a big thing because there are enough people in the world who are not quite happy with the way they are - their health, wellness, wealth, career, relationships, attitude, mindset etc are just not working as well as it ought to...
Most times, the issues troubling one are not any one of those listed above but a combination of them or maybe even all of them.
So, where does one begin on the journey of self-improvement? How does one negotiate a path through what looks like dense jungle of problems, difficulties, challenges etc?
I would suggest, one begins with his breath. Breath is the most important thing needed to stay alive. Most people breathe short, quick unaware breaths. Such breaths can surely help one survive until the next moment but they do little more than that.
Food and water, while being extremely important for our survival, are far less important than breath. However, we give a whole lot of importance and our minds pace to food and drink. But next to nothing to the breath.
Let’s start paying more attention to the breath. Slow deep diaphragmatic breathing...like that of an infant.
Once this way of breathing becomes a habit, it will help us in an enormous number of ways...and one of the most amazing things to happen will happen slowly, almost by stealth...
Stress will drop away like dead skin.
Once stress falls away, building an edifice of self-improvement will become an easy task because it will have a strong foundation to base itself on.
So, start the journey of self-improvement with slow deep, easy and relaxed abdominal (diaphragmatic) breathing.
If you need help with this kind of breathing find a yoga teacher, a music teacher or me...
