Seek Blessings, Not Gold

Seek blessings of your elders -

They’re worth much more than gold;

The world has learnt to value things

That can be bought and can be sold.

But there’s few who teach what blessings are

And fewer wish to discover their worth -

They’re what bring good health and joy

And sunshine through one’s time on earth.

When someone covets much material things

They’ll have no appreciation for finer stuff

And when life’s rollercoaster rolls on through

They’ll discover how baubles aren’t quite enough.

Wealth and money are an outcome only

Of finer work that’s been done by some;

Like genes pass down from ancestors of yore

Other things also have ways to come.

Seek not just material wealth from anyone

But seek their wisdom and blessings, too

And if you can collect this greater wealth

You’ll achieve much more in whatever you do.
