Relationships

Relationships, in so many ways, define us and our lives. So, relationships bring us great joy and greater pain.

Conventional wisdom tells us how relationships need to be invested in. Relationships are to be made, cultivated, chased, nurtured and so on...

And, of course, they are right! After all, as long as we live in a thing called society, its rules, ways, methods, preferences etc must be followed and observed. It’s a transactional thing - you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours! You pinch it, I’ll punch yours.

Relationships, and I mean real relationships need honesty, sincerity, large-heartedness, care, time and a lot more...they need love and it’s when there is love that a relationship truly flowers and achieves its potential.

There are certain relationships...like the one life blesses us with viz. family, close childhood friends etc which are not quite as transactional...though they could be and, indeed, often are...though not always.

I see things a little differently. Before we can build a true sincere relationship with ‘another’, we need to build a very deep trusting, honest, sincere, loving relationship with our selves...our higher selves. Once we have this relationship securely in place, other relationships will have no choice but to work out perfectly...

So, before we invest in others, we need to invest hugely in ourselves!
