Prisoners of War

It’s not lands that they conquer now,

It’s minds that they do -

It’s not swords that they use now

It’s words that they use.

Words form invisible nets that trap

The unwary and the less than wise

And once one falls into the trap

They’re fed on a diet of lies.

Words are threads with which ideas are weaved

And the fabrics are invisible but strong

Where bait is left for all to see

And hungry fish begin to throng.

Look within and see if you’re trapped

And struggling to somehow break free

Or are you too weakened by the struggle

And therefore resigned to let things be.
