There are some very fortunate people all over the world.
If you are reading this or listening to it being read by someone, chances are you are among the fortunate who have the luxury of the supreme wealth called time. And, there are quite a few who are privileged enough to be born into a relatively wealthy family.
Those who are thus privileged often fritter away their most precious gift, running after entertainment or simply getting bored. They run from boredom into the arms of entertainment which leaves them devitalized. Sorely needed rest barely sits well with them for soon they are bored with rest, too, and chase after some kind of entertainment again.
Most times this entertainment results not in greater joy or satisfaction or even a sense of contentment. It’s merely a means to exhaust their energy. They might sometimes want to expand their knowledge so they pick up books to read. Thrillers, espionage, drama and often pornography, too. It takes away their mental peace, excites them or worse, distracts their minds in a way that they become a burden upon themselves.
Entertainment becomes a source of ‘drainment’ to coin a word. It drains more often than it rejuvenates. So, life basically swings between boredom and entertainment, with little effort aimed at building health or wellness.
Time, the greatest wealth, could and should have been used in a large measure to truly self-improve! Or to create! But, self-improvement is not something one can buy off a shelf in a supermarket. And creativity, any kind of creativity needs discipline. It needs focus, determination and desire, too! But these things are usually in short supply for most who have the luxury of time.
The greatest responsibility that those with the luxury of time have is the responsibility to themselves. If they invest their time in something creative and doing things that help them become better versions of themselves, their lives will surely go from strength to strength.
Instead, those blessed with time unwittingly use their gift along with the power of their minds to go into self-destruct mode. And, sure enough, destruction comes along. And, it comes in many ways - destruction of wealth, health, mental state, energy and so on. But worst of all, they begin to lose their appreciation of themselves, their self-worth.
We use our physical wealth viz. money for our food, shelter, health, education, entertainment, travel and so on. But how do we use your wealth of time?
Is it not incumbent upon us to use that wealth for our betterment?
Those who learn to value their time and use it to better themselves prime themselves for a great life. You won’t find them complaining, crying or being morose.
You’ll find them rising - in a thousand different ways...and taking others along.
Please rethink your gift of time and choose to apportion it well.
