Hatred - A Sour Mango That Can Sweeten

If hatred were to grow on plants,
Would it have spikes or thorns
Or would it be like dead skin toes
That we usually simply know as corns?
Does hatred have a certain chemistry
Like sulphuric acid or some such thing;
Does it flow like lava down hill
When a mountain top bursts its ring?
Hatred is often found in hearts
But where was hatred born;
Does it prick the one who touches it
Like the cactus and its thorn?
Perhaps, a cactus grows its thorns
For it doesn’t wish to become a meal,
And so it merely spreads hurt around
For it knows it can never heal.
A mango when young is very sour
But sweetens hugely when it’s ripe;
Can’t hatred in human hearts be thus
Willing and able to change its stripe?
Perhaps, hatred is like a mango more,
Like a cactus, a lot less,
And as it matures in the summer’s heat
It’ll also turn sweet, I guess.
