Gratitude for the Oil in My Lamp

Thank you for giving me things I asked for

Thank you, also, for giving me things I didn’t ask

Thank you a lot for giving me pains

And hurts, failures and rejections

But thank you most for giving me the sense to thank.

You know I’ve been in the clasp of darkness

And the forces that darkness spreads around

And by giving and giving all you’ve given

They’re being forced to cede some ground.

Darkness doesn’t disappear with ease

Unless lamps lit by you burn bright

And all the things that you’ve given are oil

That keep lamps burning through the night.

Pain and suffering are what’s needed most

To burn that veil of darkness inside

For the moment that veil is burnt to ash

So too will the darkness of false pride.
