Get Well Soon, Dear Mother Earth

Dear Mother Earth, We hope you’re a little better now, We know we’ve troubled you much For decades and centuries too But calmly and patiently you bore it all. You said nothing, did very little But every once in a while you seemed to stir As if trying to position yourself That you could bear us and what we were doing to you. But you did not get angry, nor even scold us Though you felt the pain. Your pain was not just physical The way we dug into you, bore through you, Twisted and turned and extracted so much But you could not bear what we did to your other children As their tears fell copiously and dried On your bosom You couldn’t bear it Yet you did, Telling your other children to have faith To be calm, That the storms would pass And, we, your dearest children Would learn. But we never learn, We never learnt how to learn To see how we cause others pain And we merrily kept collecting your gifts And giving pain in return, Without any gratitude in our collective hearts We, your favorite children Never learnt to really value you Yet one of your humblest children, Less than a speck of dust Decided to humble us and our wanton ways And, even today, we stand proud before you But meekly before your humble child As we cower from each other, Afraid, unsure, terrified what will become of us And our loved ones As stories go around at the speed of light How many infected, how many dead. But we’re beginning to lose some pride, Humbled by an insignificant sister - coronavirus. Dear Mother Earth, Get well soon And pray for us that we learn our lessons well So we may forsake our terrible ways And learn more compassion, patience, love, gratitude, contentment and more So that the heaven that you created as home for us all Becomes a heaven again for all your children. - rajyogi https://rajyogi.wixsite.com/lifecoach
