Breath Is More Than We Imagine

The humble breath passes through us all all the time, giving us the most precious gift called life. It’s humble because it asks nothing but keeps on giving - life! ‘Everyone breathes while they live’ sounds right but is a wrong statement. ‘One lives while one breathes’ is better but still not quite right. ‘One lives while the breath flows through him’ is most appropriate. Because when a person dies he does not stop breathing of his own volition, his own choice. No, it’s the breath that doesn’t flow through him any more and it’s time to bid goodbye. When the breath will leave us is not dependent on us or our will. As long as breath passes through us we may be conscious, to some extent, at least. When breath departs, Consciousness departs, life departs. Yet, this amazing thing, the very basis of life and consciousness draws little attention from most living human beings. Everyone ‘breathes’, as we like to say and think but few notice how and fewer still notice what it does inside us. We ignore the basis of life itself while we heap our attention and awareness on what we eat, drink, wear, speak, do etc. And, from nowhere comes along this thing called ‘Coronavirus’ and what does it do? It challenges the act, the process of breathing. Coronavirus attacks the respiratory system, lungs and then organs that are starved of oxygen that the breath brings. Humanity, that has long ignored the breath, must now sit up and take notice - of breath. Before we are individually forced to take notice of breath and face the distress it causes when it’s not flowing unimpeded, it makes sense to start paying a lot of attention to the breath, now. Perhaps, the fact that one is paying attention to his breath will become an act of prayer that will keep the wrath of coronavirus at a safe distance. Try it...and keep trying it! Who knows what blessings are waiting to be showered on you - waiting for this simple thing - BREATH! - Rajesh Kanoi (rajyogi) https://rajyogi.wixsite.com/lifecoach
