Breath - A Tiger Tamed

As I continued to watch my breath,

My breath became a tiger that’s tamed

And as the breath became more tamed

My mind stopped becoming a thing that’s gamed.

If breath was like a wild tiger once,

My mind was a dragon always starved

That ate away large chunks of my life

Sometimes whole and sometimes halved.

Now the dragon too has become chained

Though its strength hasn’t diminished a bit

And it goes where my will directs it to go

Unable to escape or score a debilitating hit.

With breath and mind under firm control

There’s not much that can cause me pain

So the stuff of life - time - yields the fruits I want

And I need not run around in vain.

Now that my garden’s becoming green

And yielding a harvest that I like

I sit or read and write as I wish,

Unaffected by who’s gone where for a hike.

Insights pour in from some mysterious place

And I merely watch and write them down

While the world thinks of me as a pauper

I see my head covered with a crown.
