A New Year’s Choice

We usually save wealth and resources

That our lives may be easy and good

But what is it we collect inside -

All kinds of thorns and piles of dead wood?

We wouldn’t normally put our hands on fire

For fear it would burn and cause us pain

Yet we store large drums of acid

That scour our hearts and minds - in vain.

Can you resolve to choose a better life

That brings you happiness and others, too?

It’s really not that big a task

Once you decide what you choose to do.

A new year has started today

And a new day dawns every day -

Both are occasions for us to choose

To live our lives in a fulfilling way.
